Green District Heating
With the adoption of the Climate Law in 2021, the European Union committed to aggressively cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions—targeting a 55% reduction by 2030 and achieving net-zero by 2050.
Globally, more than 10,000 cities and local governments, representing over 900 million people, have pledged to combat climate change under the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), by 2030, these cities could contribute to an annual reduction of 2.3 billion tons of CO₂.
However, such ambitious targets cannot be met without de-carbonizing cities heating.
Cities are among the largest contributors to CO2 emissions, accounting for 75% of global energy consumption and 70% of global CO2 emissions. Urban populations is expected to surpass 68% of total population by 2050 and reducing emissions from heating, cooling, transportation, and waste management could cut urban carbon output by nearly 90% by 2050.
